Whop for Athletes: Sell Training, Camps and Memberships

A personal note from Dennis

I want you to see who is behind this recommendation.

I’m Dennis Yu. If I’m asking an athlete, coach, or sports-business owner to make a money-and-systems decision, a fee table and a company logo are not enough. You should be able to see the people I know, the team I bring, and the work we do together.

Aden Trano, Whop’s Head of Services, and I spent three days together at the Sphere Rocket Open in Frisco. My team built his personal site. Jack Allard was there running our agents between conversations. Cam Hazzard and Dylan Haugen teach alongside me on stage. These are working relationships, not stock photos or borrowed endorsements.

If Whop is the right fit, come in through me. You pay the same price, and my team will help you think through the setup with the worksheets and review path on this page.

Turn the following into a business your family can approve.

An athlete with clips, wins and a following has products to sell before the first NIL deal: training sessions, a camp, a membership for the people who want the program, and drops. Whop runs the checkout, the membership, the affiliates and Content Rewards on one account; for an athlete under 18, a parent or guardian holds the account and the payouts.

What you pay to get paid: today versus Whop, on your own numbers

$982card fees per year at your rate today
$922card fees per year on Whop at 2.7% + 30¢
$60difference per year, before any optional layer

Base rates only: Stripe 2.9% + 30¢, Whop 2.7% + 30¢. Whop’s optional layers (managed tax 2%, orchestration 0.8%, billing 0.5%) are not included and can push the stack above Stripe. Instant payouts, disputes and international cards are extra on both.

Same Whop pricing as going direct. No contract, no markup. Whop pays our founder a partner share out of its own margin; you pay nothing extra. Already decided on Whop? Why signing up through us costs nothing and adds a team. Run an agency or a platform? Become a Whop Partner under us.

What Whop gives you

What Whop gives an athlete

Sessions and camps by checkout link

A link in the bio or a DM that takes the session fee or the camp deposit; the roster fills before the field is booked.

Memberships and courses

A paid community with the training program and film review, access granted on payment. PreMedley runs 7,000-plus students at $27 a month on the same mechanism.

Drops through Shopify

Whop’s Shopify integration and SMS alerts sold a streetwear label $100,000 in 30 minutes; a smaller list works the same way for a team’s merch.

Content Rewards for clips

Brands post campaigns that pay per 1,000 views; the clips you already cut are the skill.

Affiliates built in

Teammates and members sell your program for a cut, paid by Whop.

Card processing at 2.7% + 30¢

Domestic card rate with no monthly fee; enterprise rates from 2.5% + 30¢. Stripe is 2.9% + 30¢. The gap is real and small; the mechanism above is the reason to move.

The mechanism

The first impression already happens without you; the first sale should not

Recruiters, brands and coaches run the same play: they search your name. Athlete Spotlight exists to own what they find. Whop is the other half, what happens when someone who found you wants to pay you: a session, a camp, a membership, a shirt. Without a checkout, that is a DM and a Venmo request; with one, it is a business with records your parents can see.

An athlete on Whop: paid at booking, recurring membership, the adult on the account.

The mechanism is the one every creator on Whop uses. Vookum turned 2.2 million followers into a $20-a-month community past $1 million; Shelby Haas sells courses, coaching and community at $1 million a month; PreMedley serves 7,000 students at $27. Smaller numbers, same machine: one checkout, automatic access, members recruiting members.

For a minor the account belongs to a parent or guardian, the same rule Athlete Spotlight already applies to the site itself. Payouts, taxes and identity verification run under the adult’s name.

What it looks like day to day

  • Session or camp paid at booking by link.
  • Membership on a monthly subscription; affiliates on for teammates.
  • Merch drop through the Shopify integration with SMS alerts.
  • Clips submitted to Content Rewards campaigns; paid per 1,000 views.

Already doing this

Creators and communities already doing this on Whop

Each link is our retelling of Whop’s own write-up, with only the numbers Whop published and what we would tell a peer to copy. All 52 stories, by industry, are at dennisyu.com/whop.

  • Vookum Verified. 2.2 million TikTok followers turned into a $20-a-month community that passed $1 million.
  • Shelby Haas. $1 million a month teaching remote sales, confirmed by Fortune, sold as courses, coaching and community.
  • PreMedley. 7,000-plus premed students on a $27-a-month membership against $5,000 incumbents.
  • Tamed Psychotic. A 22-year-old's streetwear label did $100,000 in 30 minutes on a drop through the Shopify integration and a 12,000-person SMS list.
  • AJ Banks. From stocking shelves to $21,700 in 40 days clipping through Content Rewards.

What it costs

Fees, the financing gate, and the one number Whop has not confirmed

Whop’s base rate is 2.7% + 30¢ per card transaction with no monthly fee, 20 basis points under Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢. Optional layers cost extra and only if you switch them on: managed sales tax 2%, payment orchestration 0.8%, billing automation 0.5%, affiliate payout processing 1.25%. International cards add 1.5% and currency conversion 1%. Disputes are $15. Instant payouts are 4% + $1; next-day ACH is $2.50. Turn on every layer and the stack costs more than Stripe, so read your own statement before you believe anyone’s savings pitch, including ours.

Financing is not on by default. Whop requires a verified Whop Payments account, a complete store page, a dispute rate under 2% over 90 days, and $30,000 processed from ten or more customers in the last 90 days, or 90 days of statements from your previous processor. It is not available to gambling, sports betting, trading signals, credit offers or adult categories.

The bonus

What we add when you sign up through our founder’s link

Athlete Spotlight is built with Cam Hazzard, Dylan Haugen and Trenton Sandler by the team behind Local Service Spotlight. Dennis Yu, who runs that team, is a Whop Partner: Whop pays him a share of its profit on every business that signs up through his link, and that share funds work we normally charge for.

Personal brand analysis

A scored inventory of your relationships, proof, content and reputation, with the exact next moves. The same document Dennis built for Whop’s own Head of Services.

Digital plumbing

Google Analytics 4, Tag Manager, Search Console and the Whop pixel installed and verified, with conversion events that actually fire, so you can see which dollar rang the phone.

Content Factory

One recording becomes a definitive article, short clips and posts that point to one page you own.

Agents that keep it running

We set up the AI agents that audit your public reputation, fix what they find, and produce a weekly Metrics, Analysis, Action report after we hand it off.

For an athlete that means the Athlete Spotlight site and findability work, one canonical page per product (training, camp, membership) that every clip points back to, and the tracking that tells you which platform actually converts. Under 18, the parent or guardian is the one we work with.

Bonus applies to new Whop businesses created through the link that process real payments. Sign up, take your first payment, then email us and we schedule the work.

Honest limits

Who this is not for

If you are under 18, you do not open the account; a parent or guardian does, and the bonus goes to them. If you have no product and no clips yet, start with the free audit on this site, not with a checkout. NIL rules for your school, state or association apply to what you sell; check them before you list anything.

How it works

Three steps

  1. Create your Whop business through the link. whop.com/start/?a=thedennisyu. Attribution is recorded at signup; your pricing is unchanged. If you already have a Whop account, email us the business name first and we submit the referral by hand so it is not lost.
  2. Take your first payment. Invoice, checkout link, or Tap to Pay on iPhone.
  3. Email dennis@dennisyu.com with the subject “I signed up for Whop through Dennis” and your Whop business URL. We schedule the bonus within one week.

Not sure Whop is the right move yet? Start with the free athlete audit; it tells you what your business needs first, and it is free either way.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a minor use Whop? The account, the identity verification and the payouts belong to a parent or guardian, the same rule Athlete Spotlight applies to the site itself.

What is the cheapest thing to sell first? A paid session or a camp deposit by checkout link, because it needs no course and no community, just a price and a date.

How does Content Rewards pay? A campaign sets a rate per 1,000 views; you post the clip, submit the link, and Whop pays on verified views.

Does going through the link cost more? No. Whop’s pricing is identical. Whop pays partners a share of its own profit on referred businesses; that share is what funds the bonus.

Disclosure: Dennis Yu, founder of Athlete Spotlight, is a Whop Partner and earns a share of Whop’s profit on businesses that sign up through the link on this page, plus a smaller share on partners who enroll under him. Whop pricing is the same whether or not you use the link. Whop did not pay for or review this page. Whop is a trademark of Whop, Inc.; this page is not operated by Whop.
