    One Interview, Five Articles: Making an Athlete Findable

    The interview above runs one minute and forty seconds. It was filmed on a gym floor in Utah, on a phone, with no script, no lighting, and no second take. That clip is now the foundation of a personal brand website, an author identity, and five separate articles across five different domains.

    Polish dunker Piotr Zawiślak is 18 and one of the best young dunkers alive. He is the youngest Black Band dunker The Dunk Camp has ever produced, a level only 13 people in the world hold, and he competes on the FIBA circuit across Europe.

    In English, almost none of that existed anywhere a search engine could read it. His name appeared spelled several different ways in captions. No page existed that a journalist, a sponsor, or an AI assistant could cite. He was among the best in the world at a thing and functionally unfindable outside Instagram.

    What Was Actually in a Hundred Seconds of Tape

    I filmed it at The Dunk Camp in Salt Lake City, where we met in person for the first time after a year of following each other online. I opened with the comparison I had been making about him to anyone who would listen.

    Then the concrete part, which is the part that matters to a machine.

    We are both 18 and our birthdays fall two days apart. He is from Poland and competes across Europe. I am from America and compete in the DunkMan League. He answered one question about how his week at camp went.

    That was the whole interview. Two athletes, one phone, under two minutes.

    Why a Hundred Seconds Was Enough

    Count what a machine can pull out of that clip. A correctly spelled name. A nationality. An age. A discipline. A specific trick performed at a specific age, the 360 Underboth at 17. A named event. A named peer with his own verified presence. A first-person quote about his own experience.

    That is an entity record delivered in conversation form. A highlight reel contains none of it. Footage proves a person can jump. Text is what a search engine indexes, what a journalist quotes, and what an AI assistant reads back when somebody asks who this person is.

    Most athletes have this exact conversation constantly. In a car on the way to a meet, in a hotel lobby, in a DM at midnight. It disappears every time, because nobody hit record and nobody wrote it down.

    First Output: His Own Address and His Own Byline

    Before any article existed, he got a domain with his name on it. A platform profile and a link-in-bio page both sit on somebody else’s property. This one is his, and it will still be his in ten years, after the platform he uses today has changed its algorithm four more times.

    He also got an author identity on that site, so every article he publishes is attributed to him as a person instead of to an anonymous brand account. Underneath sits entity schema, the structured description that tells Google and AI models what kind of thing he is, what he does, where he competes, and who he is connected to.

    That combination is what turns a website into something a machine can trust. Plenty of athletes own a website. Very few own one that answers the question “who is this” in a format anything other than a human can parse.

    Second Output: Five Articles, Five Angles, Zero Duplicate Sentences

    The same hundred seconds then produced five articles, each written for a different audience on a different domain. Five angles, not five copies.

    His own first-person account is my week at The Dunk Camp, published under his byline on his own domain. It anchors the set, and every other piece points back to it.

    My side of the same meeting ran on my personal brand site as meeting one of the best 18-year-olds. Two athletes describing the same encounter from opposite directions gives a search engine two independent pages that corroborate each other.

    The show version went to Dunk Talk, the podcast I host, as two of the best 18-year-olds meet. That audience cares about the matchup, the styles, and the America versus Europe contrast underneath it.

    The scouting version went to Dunker Spotlight, which covers the sport itself, as the most electric dunker from Poland. It introduces him to people who follow dunking closely and had never heard the name.

    The method breakdown went to BlitzMetrics, a marketing site with enough authority to rank on a person’s name, as how we built his personal brand. That one explains the mechanics to marketers rather than to athletes.

    Why Five Domains Instead of One Good Page

    A single page has to earn trust by itself. Five pages on five domains, each linking back to his site, create something a search engine reads as corroboration. Different sources, different wording, same facts, same spelling of the same name, all pointing at one home address.

    An AI assistant needs the same thing. Ask a model about an athlete with one page and it hedges. Ask about an athlete described consistently across several independent sites and it answers with confidence, because agreement between sources is the signal it is built to weigh.

    None of the five articles reuse a sentence from another. Duplicate text across domains is worse than no text at all, so each piece got a distinct angle, a distinct audience, and its own reason to exist.

    The Offer That Created This

    The interview only exists because of a promise made on stage. Two days earlier, Dennis Yu of BlitzMetrics and I ran a session for 76 campers on turning real stories into pages a machine can read, and we closed it with an open invitation to the room.

    You Do Not Need More Content

    The lesson generalizes cleanly. A 1500 meter runner who sits down for two minutes and names her personal record, the coach who fixed her mechanics, and the race that fell apart has produced the same raw material Piotr did. So has a boulderer describing the project that took four sessions. So has a sophomore explaining why he switched positions.

    What none of them have is a place to put it and a structure that makes it readable. That is the real missing piece, and it was never a content problem. Piotr had more proof of his ability than almost any 18-year-old on earth. He was still invisible.

    How Athletes Show Up on Google and AI

    Google keeps a confidence score on you. It measures how well the search engine understands who you are and what you do, and anything above 400 puts you in celebrity range. Most athletes, including professionals with hundreds of thousands of followers, do not register at all.

    That score was the subject of a classroom session at a dunk training camp in Salt Lake City. Former search engine engineer Dennis Yu and I taught it to 76 athletes sitting in folding chairs. The video above is the full session. This is the athlete-facing version, written for anyone chasing a college offer, a sponsorship, or a name that belongs to them.

    I started exactly where most of that room started. I had a podcast, a couple hundred videos, and real relationships with real people in my sport, and none of it added up to anything a machine could read. Here is how I described that on stage.

    We Audited All 76 Athletes Before We Said a Word

    Before the session, we ran every camper through an audit of their public presence and ranked the results. The whole thing is still up at the Dunk Camp 2026 athlete audit leaderboard, with a downloadable PDF for each athlete. Dunker Nathaniel “Hoopin Nate” Kenney finished first. Brooke Lance finished second.

    The ranking was never the interesting part. What mattered was how consistent the failure was. Athletes with contest wins, sponsor relationships, and audiences in the hundreds of thousands were nearly invisible to the systems that decide what a stranger learns about them. The material existed. The structure did not.

    What the Confidence Score Actually Measures

    Dennis built the analytics at Yahoo in the late 1990s, so his read on this is not theoretical. He put the number on screen and explained why being verified on Google works nothing like being verified on a social platform.

    Then he showed the spread. Jordan Kilganon, a dunker known worldwide, sits around 1,700. My own score is north of 3,000. Shaquille O’Neal, with decades of television behind him, lands somewhere around 40,000, which sounds unreachable until you notice how much of his career was never structured properly in the first place.

    An athlete two years out of high school can outscore a Hall of Famer on this particular measure, because the measure rewards organization rather than fame. That should be encouraging if you are 17 and nobody has heard of you yet. The scoreboard you are actually competing on is one almost nobody in your sport is playing.

    The Same Structure Feeds ChatGPT and Claude

    Most athletes have not caught up to this next part yet. The structured data that earns a Knowledge Panel is the same data an AI assistant reads when somebody asks about you.

    Picture a recruiting coordinator with 40 names to sort, or a brand manager deciding who gets the gear deal. More of them every month type a name into an assistant before they ever open Instagram. The assistant answers from what is written down and connected, and your best clip does not enter into it.

    Relationships count as structure. A 5,000 meter runner who has raced named athletes at named meets, a climber who has competed in named events, a sophomore who trains under a coach people recognize: every one of those connections is a signal, and every one of them counts for nothing until it exists as text on a page with your name on it.

    Cam Hazzard’s Site Took About Twenty Minutes

    The clearest demonstration we had was a real one. We filmed a twenty minute interview with professional dunker Cam Hazzard in Dallas the day before he spoke at a conference. Over lunch the next day, we built his entire personal brand site out of that single conversation. It took about twenty minutes.

    Before that, a search on his name returned scattered social profiles and other people entirely. He now owns nearly every result across the first three pages of Google for his own name. He then went further on his own and built an agent that hunts down credible public mentions of him and files them, and he demoed it live at an AI summit in Detroit in front of a room of university professors.

    Cam is a dunker, not an engineer. He learned the tool the same week he used it. That is the actual bar now, and it is lower than almost every athlete assumes.

    You Are Not Short on Content

    Nearly everyone in that room assumed the barrier was production. It almost never is. My own inventory runs to more than 200 long form videos plus about 80 podcast episodes, and most of it sat unusable for years because it lived on platforms I do not own.

    Your version of that inventory already exists. Race footage, meet results, the interview a local reporter did, the conversation with a teammate about the season that went sideways. None of it is findable while it lives on a camera roll and a link-in-bio page that belongs to somebody else. Point people at an address you own and the same material starts working for you.

    Nothing Here Is Specific to Dunking

    The room happened to be dunkers, and the room happened to be at The Dunk Camp in Utah. Swap the sport and none of the mechanics move. A distance runner needs personal records, race results, and coaches named on a page under her own name. A speed climber needs a competition history in text, not just on a federation database. A 2028 basketball recruit needs a permanent address that outlives every recruiting profile he will ever fill out.

    The pattern holds in all three cases: one owned domain, real facts written plainly, structured data underneath, and every relationship named and linked. That is the whole method. The sport only changes the vocabulary.

    What Athlete Spotlight Does

    Do this before you do anything else. Search your own name in a private browser window, then ask an AI assistant who you are. Whatever comes back is what a coach or a sponsor sees. If it is randomness and confusion, that is a solvable problem, and solving it starts with one conversation you record on purpose.

    An athlete personal brand website is the one page on the internet that Google and every AI engine treat as the most authoritative source about who that athlete is. It is not a link-in-bio and not a social page. It is a real site on the athlete’s own domain, built from the content they already have, structured so a recruiter, a sponsor, and a search engine all understand the same thing: this person is real, this is what they have done, and here is the proof.

    This article is the standard we build every Athlete Spotlight site to. It covers the exact page set, the nine-section homepage, the entity schema that makes an athlete machine-readable, and the quality gate that has to pass before a site goes live. Our nine-section homepage extends the published eight-section athlete standard from the personal brand website agent; the extra section is real placements, never filler. The lighthouse we build against is camhazzard.com, which ranks number one for “Cam Hazzard.”

    What an athlete personal brand website is

    The site is the entity home. Google reads links, structured data, and consistent facts to decide who an entity is and how confident it should be. When an athlete’s name, photo, sport, results, and profiles all agree across the site and its schema, that confidence goes up, and the site starts winning the athlete’s own name in search. That is the whole point: own your name on Google so that when a recruiter or sponsor looks you up, they find you and you look legitimate.

    Two rules sit above everything else. First, the homepage is provable facts linked to their sources; the About page is the stories behind those facts. Second, a missing section is better than a fake one. If an athlete has no press yet, we omit the placements section entirely rather than invent one. Every claim on the page traces back to a real intake field.

    The page set we ship

    Every athlete site ships the same nine pages (one of them conditional), plus one seeded launch post so the blog is never empty:

    • Home (/), the nine-section homepage below.
    • About (/about/), the story page in the athlete’s first-person voice, carrying the full Person schema; Rank Math schema type ProfilePage.
    • Highlights (/highlights/), the sport proof page: featured film, all clips, contest results that deep-link to video proof.
    • What People Are Saying (/what-people-are-saying/), tiered social proof and the on-site home for the positive-mentions feed.
    • Blog (/blog/), a real query loop of posts, categories Interviews and Milestones, never Uncategorized; schema type CollectionPage.
    • Gallery (/gallery/), conditional: built and added to navigation only when the athlete has eight or more real photos.
    • Connect (/connect/), the contact page with platform cards and official profiles; schema type ContactPage.
    • Links (/links/), footer-only, the link-in-bio replacement that routes traffic back into the site instead of out to a third-party page.
    • Accessibility Statement (/accessibility-statement/), footer-only, honest commitment copy required by the site QA checklist.

    Athlete sites are personal brand sites, so on-page copy is first person (“My Story,” “What I Do”), and the WordPress author on every page and post is the athlete, never an admin account. That POV rule comes straight from the blog posting guidelines.

    The nine-section homepage

    The homepage carries one call to action per section, except the hero, which carries two. A minimum of five distinct real images sit across the page. In order:

    1. Hero. A two-column layout with a real portrait or action photo on the right. The H1 begins with the athlete’s literal name plus a one-sentence differentiation (“{Name}. {Role} out of {State}.”). Two buttons: a gold “My Story” and a secondary “Watch My Highlights.”
    2. Stats bar. Up to four real, provable numbers from intake (measurables, rankings, wins, verified marks). Numbers, not adjectives. Omitted entirely when the athlete has none.
    3. Story teaser. A short “My Story” pull with a plain link to the full About page.
    4. What I Do. Exactly three persona-driven cards aimed at the buy box (recruiting, sponsorship, coaching, or content), each with one call to action.
    5. Featured clip. The single best highlight, embedded when it is embeddable so the homepage meets the video-on-homepage bar.
    6. What People Are Saying. Three attributed quote cards; the whole card deep-links to the original post when a source URL exists.
    7. As Seen On. Real placements only (league, press outlets, sponsors). Omitted entirely when empty. This is the section our nine extends past the published eight; it is provable placements, never filler.
    8. From the Blog. A real latest-three query loop, never static hand-coded cards, seeded by the launch post.
    9. Connect band. A social row and one gold call to action to the Connect page.

    Media rules: fast is part of the standard

    A slow site fails the standard no matter how good the content is. The lighthouse sites paid real Core Web Vitals penalties for a 1.6MB hero before we fixed them, so the media rules are baked into every pattern:

    • The hero is a real image, preloaded, marked high priority, served as a WebP rendition of 100KB or less. We never serve a multi-megabyte original and never use a CSS background image for the largest element.
    • Every image carries width, height, and alt text, so layout never shifts and every image is described.
    • Everything below the fold lazy-loads.
    • Schema image references keep full resolution even though the visible image is downsized.
    • Real photos only. The factory never sources or substitutes stock imagery; photo selection is a human step.

    Entity schema: making the athlete machine-readable

    Structured data is what lets Google and an AI engine actually understand an athlete instead of guessing. This is the difference between a pretty site and an entity. It builds on Google’s Knowledge Graph methodology.

    • Person schema, defined once, in full, on the About page, with a single @id of {site-url}/#person. Every other page references that same @id rather than redefining the person (which avoids the duplicate-graph mismatch we found on one reference site). The Person record carries the name, job title, image at full resolution, sameAs (every social and official profile), knowsAbout (sport and position), home location, and email.
    • Per-page schema types through Rank Math: About is ProfilePage, Connect is ContactPage, Blog is CollectionPage, posts are Article, and everything else is WebPage.
    • The sameAs array is the athlete’s proof web: social profiles plus the federation profile, the league or team page, and the Wikidata item when one exists. Claiming and interlinking those official profiles is its own step, covered in the federation profiles standard.
    • Validate every page with Google’s Rich Results Test before launch. That is a human step on the deploy checklist.

    The QA gate: what has to pass before launch

    Before a site ships, an automated gate checks it against the article guidelines. It exists to catch two failure modes: AI slop and site defects we have seen on real builds. The gate blocks the build (not just warns) on these, among others:

    • Zero unresolved template tokens anywhere.
    • Zero em dashes, and zero banned words, AI patterns, or salesy phrases in any generated copy.
    • Person and WebSite schema parse, and every page’s embedded schema matches its standalone file exactly.
    • Balanced Gutenberg block markup, and alt text on every image.
    • Every internal link resolves to a real page slug (a stale gallery link is a hard failure, not a soft 404).
    • The homepage carries the nine sections in order, and the From the Blog section is a real query loop, not static cards (that static-cards defect is a real one we corrected on a reference site).
    • The export file parses as valid XML and every item imports as a draft, so the human gate is never skipped.
    • Intake constraints hold: five to ten clips, at most two featured, exactly one hero.
    • Unique meta titles and descriptions across pages, and no testimonial quote rendered twice on one page.

    Warnings (which a human resolves or documents) cover things like meta descriptions carrying the athlete’s name, a featured clip that is not embeddable, and page-photo alt text that does not include the athlete’s name.

    Rank Math to 81 and above

    A green Rank Math score starts at 81, not 80. We do not chase it in a single pass; we run the Rank Math loop until each page clears the bar. The homepage focus keyword is the athlete’s full name, targeting the lighthouse bar of 84 and above. Every other page targets one entity or topic, never reused across posts, and every page clears a floor of 70. New posts iterate to 81 and above. Draft scores are supposed to start low; the loop is what produces green.

    Real examples

    camhazzard.com is the lighthouse. It ranks number one for “Cam Hazzard,” implements the nine-section homepage, carries the full Person schema with one canonical @id, uses per-page ProfilePage, ContactPage, and CollectionPage types, and serves its hero as a roughly 316KB rendition while keeping full-resolution images in schema. It is the site every other build is measured against.

    dylan-haugen.com is a second live athlete build on the same standard, a professional dunker’s personal brand site. It also documents what to avoid: an earlier version shipped stale hand-coded blog cards and a duplicate-schema @id mismatch. We fixed those patterns in the standard precisely because we saw them on a real site.

    jordan-tate is a synthetic pilot fixture, not a real athlete. We use it to test the builder end to end: the intake goes in, the full package comes out (nine pages, the launch post, schema, the deploy runbook), and the QA gate runs against it. It exists so we can prove the machine works before a real athlete’s data ever touches it. It should never appear in marketing or be presented as a client.
